The association was formed in 1999 by a group of residents who were very concerned about the run down appearance of the estate, the high incidence of criminal damage and of crime in general. The estate had a history of neglect and lack of investment which made itself apparent in a number of ways. The shrub beds were populated by dead or dying plants. Many of the trees on the estate were dead and weeds were flourishing. Rubbish and graffiti were very much in evidence and the burning of cars in the lower garage area was a regular occurrence. Used syringes were frequently seen in the garage area and many of the garage doors were ripped from their hinges. It was quite obvious that things were going to get even worse unless something was done to change the trend, and so the Residents Association came into being. The Committee hold regular meetings with council officers to discuss problems on the estate and to identify improvements / repairs and the maintainance of soft and hard landscaping. In 2001, with the help of Bill Rammell, a working party was set up to look at ways of regenerating the estate. A lottery grant was applied for and won. We then commissioned A D Architects to look at the estate and come up with a regeneration plan. |
